The holidays are here, which means decorating, feasting with the family, and singing holiday tunes. Regardless of your age, you’re never too old to take part in holiday festivities. Given the variety of ways to celebrate, there are plenty of opportunities for older adults to join in the holiday fun.

 View the Holiday Lights

Some homes and businesses really like to outshine their neighbors with holiday lighting and inflatables. Take a loved one on a ride past all the holiday décor. View the vibrant lights, and take plenty of photos. There’s typically limited walking, as you can usually enjoy these sights from the comfort of a car.

Make a Menorah

Whether you prefer traditional, modern, colorful, or kid-friendly (no flame), you can make a menorah to suit your style. This important symbol of Hanukkah will be even more special when it is created with family or friends.

Flower Arrangements

Poinsettias are well recognized as traditional Christmas flowers. Rather than purchasing a holiday centerpiece, take the time to create your very own centerpiece. Use this as a unique gift for loved ones, or if you’re hosting a dinner, this will make for a beautiful focal point.

Bake Holiday Treats

Now is as good a time as any to bake fresh holiday pies and cookies. Kugel, gingerbread men, rugelach, and candy cane-flavored treats are the perfect activity to do with a loved one. Use recipes passed down for generations and teach them to the grandkids—or start a new tradition!

Movie Marathon!

A movie marathon is an activity the entire family can enjoy. Try classics like It’s A Wonderful Life, Scrooged, Home Alone, and Polar Express.

Make a Gingerbread House

All you need to do is stop at the grocery store to purchase a gingerbread house. If you’re really feeling fancy, an arts and crafts store will have loads of options and add-ons to step up your gingerbread-house game.

Christmas Caroling

Grab friends, neighbors, and loved ones, and gather to walk through the neighborhood for a round of caroling.
