Independent Living in The Meadows
The Meadows apartments, on the other hand, provide "very independent" living accommodations. Most rates for units in The Meadows buildings run between $2,200 and $3,000 and include a four-course gourmet meal every evening or a full American-style breakfast every morning for one resident per appartment. The monthly fee for occupants who select the daily breakfast meal, rather than dinner, is $200 less per month. The rate for all Meadows units also includes heating, air-conditioning and hot water, as well as maintenance, parking, snow removal, etc.

There is no extra charge for more than one person occupying the same unit of The Meadows, other than the cost of any meals selected by the additional occupant. There are also 24 fully independent units called "The Cottages," where fully independent suites for one or two occupants, with no meals provided, begin at just $1,200 per month.

Independent Living in New Horizons
Independent living suites in the main New Horizons building at 400 Hemenway Street are relatively all-inclusive, except for personal care services if they are later needed. All New Horizons rates, for both independent living or assisted living units, include three gourmet meals daily. They also include weekly housekeeping services and much more comprehensive activities programs and physical fitness classes, including a very large indoor, waist-deep, heated lap swimming pool. Local transportation is also included for New Horizons residents for scheduled shopping trips, as well as trips to local events, pre-scheduled medical appointments, etc.

Monthly rates for independent living suites in New Horizons mostly range from $2,080 per month for studio apartments, from $2,200 for one-bedroom apartments, and from $3,100 for two-bedroom apartments. Again, the New Horizons charge for a spouse in any of these apartments is just $100 per month, additional, including three meals daily for both residents.

Assisted Living Apartments
Residents who need personal care assistance with the activities of daily living may add that service at any time, even if they do not need any assistance when they first move in. Personal care services are provided through an organized care plan in increments of 15 minutes, as needed.

This service is actually provided by New Horizons' third-party care provider, Care Solutions, Inc., a firm that was recently rated the single best performing home health entity in Massachusetts. The cost for a cumulative total of about an hour a day of such service currently adds about $900 per month to the rates shown for independent living suites (just above).
